Toddler with book

Spring is here! With warmer days, blooming flowers, and the world waking up after winter, it’s the perfect time to explore nature and the changing seasons with your little one.

One of the simplest ways to do this is through storybooks. Reading together helps children:

  • Build language and vocabulary,

  • Develop listening and attention skills,

  • Spark imagination and creativity,

  • & learn about the world around them.

To celebrate the season, we’ve compiled our favourite spring-inspired storybooks for under 5s. These stories explore nature, growth, outdoor play, and the joy of the season — perfect for reading at home or in the garden.

Bringing the Books to Life

Reading these stories with your little one is just the start. You can:

  • Take a walk outside and look for signs of spring

  • Plant seeds or flowers and watch them grow

  • Talk about the animals, plants, and weather in the books

Storytime becomes even more powerful when paired with real-world experiences, helping children connect language, imagination, and the world around them.

Expand their understanding: Encourage your child to describe what they see, make predictions, or retell the story in their own words. These small interactions have a huge impact on early communication, literacy, and curiosity.

Spring is a wonderful time to explore nature, grow together, and develop a lifelong love of reading — all from the comfort of home, garden, or local park.
